The Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization (SASO) called on manufacturers and importers to register their products on the Saber Platform as a mandatory procedure to place both locally manufactured and imported products in the Saudi market.
Saber electronic platform was launched on January 1, 2019, by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), as a replacement to the manual system of issuing Shipment conformity certificates to ensure a high level of quality and safety of products.
Saber implementation developed by SASO aimed to electronically register and issue conformity certificates for imported and local products.
The most prominent benefit achieved by transferring to Saber is that importers can complete the required conformity assessment in the country of origin through a third party (SASO Approved Bodies)
This enables a quick and easy clearance process at Saudi ports, as the required certificates were previously issued, which ensures product compliance with the relevant technical regulations and conformity to standards.
Saber electronic platform for registering products and issuing conformity certificates is a step towards more accessible and easy procedures to ensure the quality and safety of products in accordance with the relevant standards and technical regulations.
The announcement of SASO and the Saudi Customs to the link between and FASAH in July 2020, contributes to facilitating procedures and reducing the time needed to complete clearance at Saudi customs ports.
Before explaining further, please note that there are different certificates that can be issued through Saber. Their procedures and requirements vary from one to another. Following are the three certificates that can be issued through Saber for imported products:
Here are common steps that will be followed to issue any of these three certificates:
The self- Declaration Certificate is required for non-regulated products both locally manufactured and imported. The manufacturer of the importer applies to issue it via Saber and takes responsibility for the conformity of the product to Saudi Standards.
To issue any Saber Certificate an account on Saber is mandatory and only the importers and local manufacturers with a Saudi commercial registration can have a Saber account and then they will apply for certificates.
